Zaterdag staat de Anzegem-Ingooigem Classic op het programma, een interclubwedstrijd binnen het kader van de Beker van België. Voor Daan Fauvart, renner bij Cyclingclub 1785, wordt het zijn eerste deelname aan deze klassieker, maar hij kijkt er met vertrouwen naar uit.
Het seizoen van Daan verloopt tot nu toe behoorlijk constant. Hij behaalde al een mooie derde plaats in Zutendaal, werd zesde in Zottegem-Erwetegem en pakte recent nog de tiende plek bij de tweedejaarsnieuwelingen op het Provinciaal Kampioenschap van Vlaams-Brabant. "Natuurlijk zijn er ook al mindere momenten geweest", klinkt het eerlijk. "Vorige week was ik betrokken bij een kleine valpartij in Gent-Wevelgem voor U17 renners, waardoor ik niet kon meestrijden voor de ereplaatsen. Maar overall voel ik me goed en dat geeft vertrouwen."

"De Tiegemberg zal echt in de benen kruipen"
De voorbereiding op de Anzegem-Ingooigem Classic bestond voor Daan vooral uit het rijden van andere interclubs. “Dat zijn sowieso koersen van hoge intensiteit, dus eigenlijk een ideale aanloop. Samen met mijn trainer bekijk ik voortdurend mijn programma. Na deze periode met veel koersen nemen we bewust wat rust, om fysiek én mentaal fris te blijven.”
Fauvart is trots op zijn selectie. “Het is speciaal om telkens onze clubkleuren te mogen verdedigen in zo’n sterk deelnemersveld. Het motiveert me extra om alles te geven.” Het parcours kent hij nog niet, maar hij plant een verkenning op de wedstrijddag zelf. Eén onderdeel springt er volgens hem sowieso uit: de Tiegemberg, die acht keer beklommen moet worden. “Dat zal echt in de benen kruipen. Ik verwacht dat daar de beslissende moves zullen gebeuren.”
Een concrete strategie houdt hij voorlopig nog voor zich. “Ik zie wel hoe de koers verloopt en hoe ik me voel. Dan beslis ik pas of ik iets probeer.” De ambitie is duidelijk: “Als ik mijn huidige lijn kan doortrekken, mik ik op een plek bij de eerste twintig finishers; al is beter natuurlijk altijd welkom.”
Voor Fauvart is de dag geslaagd als hij veilig de finish haalt, en liefst met een sterke collectieve prestatie. “We starten met vier renners van Cycling Club 1785, en ik hoop dat we samen het clubklassement kunnen behouden of verbeteren. Dat zou echt de kers op de taart zijn.”

This Sunday, the Anzegem-Ingooigem Classic is on the calendar, an interclub race that counts towards the prestigious Belgian Cup. For Daan Fauvart, rider at Cyclingclub 1785, it will be his first time competing in this classic, and he’s looking forward to the challenge with confidence.
So far, Daan’s season has been quite steady. He already achieved a solid third place in Zutendaal, finished sixth in Zottegem-Erwetegem, and most recently placed tenth among second-year U17 riders at the Provincial Championships of Flemish Brabant. “Of course, there have been some tough moments too” he admits. “Last week, for example, I was involved in a minor crash during Gent-Wevelgem for U17, which kept me from fighting for a top result. But overall, I feel good, and that gives me confidence.”
“The Tiegemberg will really wear down the legs”
Daan’s preparation for the Anzegem-Ingooigem Classic mainly consisted of racing other interclub events. “Those are all high-intensity races, so they serve as great preparation for this classic. My coach and I constantly discuss my race program. After this busy period, we’ll plan some rest to stay fresh both physically and mentally.”
Fauvart is proud to be selected. “It’s always special to represent our club’s colors in such a strong field. It gives me extra motivation to perform and push myself.” While he hasn’t ridden the course before, he plans to explore it on race day. One feature stands out to him: the Tiegemberg, which riders will tackle eight times. “That’s definitely going to wear down the legs. I expect the decisive moves will happen there.”
When it comes to strategy, he prefers to keep his cards close to his chest. “It depends on how the race unfolds and how I’m feeling. Only then will I know whether to try something.” His goal is clear; “If I can continue the form I’ve shown recently, I’m aiming for a top twenty place, and of course, better is always welcome.”
For Daan, a successful day means finishing safely and delivering a strong performance as a team. “We’re lining up with four riders from Cyclingclub 1785, and I really hope we can maintain or even improve our position in the team standings. That would be the cherry on top.”
